For the love of bees – biking bee
Last weekend ‘for the love of bees’, a city bee collaboration / social sculpture in Auckland put into action their mission to turn Auckland into “a biologically robust ecosystem” and the safest city in the world for bees.
53 intrepid Aucklanders turned up on their bikes eager to traverse the city, to learn and participate in a biking bee where we planted an orchard at Griffith Gardens in Wellesley St; inoculated the ground of Albert park and Symonds St and Kingsland community gardens with beneficial microorganisms and mycorrhizal fungi; planted flowers and nitrogen fixing legumes; visited the butterflies at Hakanoa Reserve pollinator park and used a biodynamic cow pat pit and planted willow trees for cows at Kelmarna Gardens.
